About Beautiful Betty
Leaders in Conscious, Modern, Ethical Beauty.
Beautiful Betty was founded in 2015 by Haley Stokoe, an experienced therapist with nearly two decades in the beauty industry. After 17 years of working within traditional salon structures, Haley saw an opportunity to redefine what beauty could look like — ethically, sustainably, and without compromise.
What began as a vision quickly became a movement. Guided by a commitment to transparency, responsibility and conscious beauty, Haley built Beautiful Betty into a three‑storey destination in the heart of Hexham: an ethical beauty shop, a purpose‑led salon and a carefully curated online store.
From day one, our philosophy has been simple:
beauty should feel good, look good and do good.
Not just for your skin — but for the planet, for the industry, and for the people within it.
We believe that beauty is more than a surface experience. It’s a reflection of the choices we make, the values we hold and the impact we leave behind. That’s why being an ethical business isn’t a marketing angle for us — it is the foundation beneath every decision, every treatment, every brand we choose to partner with.
What It Means to Be Ethical in Today’s Beauty Industry
Ethics are the principles we live by — and increasingly, the principles that define how forward‑thinking businesses operate. Around the world, movements like B Corp are reshaping the expectations of modern companies: demanding higher standards in social responsibility, environmental stewardship, transparency and accountability.
This global shift aligns naturally with what Beautiful Betty has championed from the beginning.
We are proud to be part of the wave of British businesses proving that sustainability and luxury can absolutely co‑exist — and that conscious beauty can lead the market, not sit on the sidelines of it.

Pioneers of Conscious, Modern, Ethical Beauty.
Beautiful Betty was founded in 2015 by Haley Stokoe, a highly experienced therapist with nearly twenty years in the beauty industry. After 17 years working within conventional salon settings, Haley saw an opportunity to do things differently — to create a business where ethical principles, sustainability and uncompromising quality could work in perfect harmony.
What began as a clear vision swiftly evolved into a respected destination. Guided by transparency, responsibility and a deep commitment to conscious beauty, Haley built Beautiful Betty into a three‑storey hub in the heart of Hexham — a curated ethical beauty shop, a values‑driven salon and a considered online store.
From the beginning, our philosophy has been unwavering:
beauty should feel good, look good, and do good.
Not only for your skin, but for the world around us.
We believe beauty is more than an experience — it’s an expression of what we value. Every brand we select, every treatment we perform and every decision we make is rooted in intention, integrity and the desire to shape a more responsible industry. For us, being ethical isn’t a trend or a marketing tool. It’s the foundation of who we are.
Ethical Beauty in a Modern World
Ethics guide the way we live — and increasingly, the way forward‑thinking businesses operate. Across the globe, movements such as B Corp are inspiring new standards in accountability, sustainability and social responsibility. These are the principles that have shaped Beautiful Betty from day one.
We’re proud to stand among the growing wave of British brands proving that sustainability and luxury aren’t opposing forces — they belong together. Conscious beauty is not an alternative; it is the future. And we are determined to help lead that future with clarity, passion and purpose.

Our Shop
Beautiful Betty has aimed from the start to be one of Britain’s growing number of ethical businesses. Beautiful Betty was founded by Haley Stokoe in 2015. Haley decided to go it alone after 17 years in the beauty industry. She was driven by the belief that beauty can be delivered ethically and without compromise. Haley’s ‘conscious beauty’ model quickly took off. She was able to open a three-storey beauty shop, salon and – last, but not least - an online beauty outlet.
We believe that beauty isn’t just skin deep, it’s about how you live and the impact that has on our wonderful planet. Being an ethical business is at the heart of every choice we make.
But what are ethical businesses?
We all have ethics. They’re the principles that we live by. However, a growing number of businesses around the world are focusing on their business principles. One example of that is the B Corps movement. This is a movement to build a more sustainable global economy. Corporations earn B Corps certification by meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. They balance profit and purpose by developing as ethical businesses.
Beautiful Betty’s 5 Ethical Business Commandments
-
Making ethical choices is what will define us. Our decisions have an impact on those around us and the wider world.
- We will actively source product ranges that offer vegan friendly options or are 100% vegan.
- We will say no to animal cruelty. Brands can say they are cruelty free for the UK and European markets but will test their products elsewhere. Is that cruelty-free beauty? We don’t think so!
-
We will buy British. There are exciting UK beauty brands whose products can easily rival the big international brands. We’re fully behind them.
- We will work on our sustainabilty without compromising on quality.
Running one of the UK’s ethical businesses makes us feel happy and proud. We believe that business can be a genuine driver for good.
