More About Us

Beautiful Betty has aimed from the start to be one of Britain’s growing number of ethical businesses. Beautiful Betty was founded by Haley Stokoe in 2015. Haley decided to go it alone after 17 years in the beauty industry. She was driven by the belief that beauty can be delivered ethically and without compromise.  Haley’s ‘conscious beauty’ model quickly took off. She was able to open a three-storey beauty shop, salon and – last, but not least - an online beauty outlet.

We believe that beauty isn’t just skin deep, it’s about how you live and the impact that has on our wonderful planet. Being an ethical business is at the heart of every choice we make.

But what are ethical businesses?

We all have ethics. They’re the principles that we live by. However, a growing number of businesses around the world are focusing on their business principles. One example of that is the B Corps movement.  This is a movement to build a more sustainable global economy. Corporations earn B Corps certification by meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. They balance profit and purpose by developing as ethical businesses.

Beautiful Betty’s 5 Ethical Business Commandments

  • Making ethical choices is what will define us. Our decisions have an impact on those around us and the wider world.

  • We will actively source product ranges that offer vegan friendly options or are 100% vegan.

  • We will say no to animal cruelty. Brands can say they are cruelty free for the UK and European markets but will test their products elsewhere. Is that cruelty-free beauty? We don’t think so!

  • We will buy British. There are exciting UK beauty brands whose products can easily rival the big international brands. We’re fully behind them.

  • We will work on our sustainabilty without compromising on quality.

Running one of the UK’s ethical businesses makes us feel happy and proud. We believe that business can be a genuine driver for good.

Why not explore Beautiful Betty’s brands via our online beauty outlet?

We also have a bricks-and-mortar shop in the pretty market town of Hexham . Our salon upstairs uses ethical beauty products for the treatments available.

Welcome to the Beautiful Betty beauty outlet: a brand with ethical shopping at its heart.

Beautiful Betty is not just another beauty outlet. It’s a beauty outlet with a focus on brilliant beauty products that tick your boxes as an ethical consumer. We focus on areas such as sustainability, vegan friendliness and discovering exciting UK brands.

We love to work with smaller, independent businesses who really get what we believe in. Building relationships with fellow indie businesses is our aim. Flourishing together is fun!  We only take on beauty partners for our outlet that are passionate about doing business whilst doing good. Just like us, they think about carbon off-setting; charitable contributions; vegan offerings; responsible packaging; recyclable packaging; clean beauty standards; plastic free; bio-degradable, and waterless products.

We favour brands that are manufactured in the UK because this keeps the transport emissions low on their products. This also allows us to study their production methods. They are open and transparent: we can trust that all of their ingredients are truly cruelty free.

The vast majority of our British beauty brands are manufactured in the UK. We have only made a couple of exceptions to that rule. However, we have ensured that these brands have a rigorous stance on animal testing and that they take action to offset the environmental impact of importing their products.

Looking for vegan gifts for a friend? We have great options for men and women. Order online from our beauty outlet or - if you’re lucky enough to be near our Northumberland store, why not pop in for a mooch? We can also arrange click and collect for local clients. The Beautiful Betty bricks-and-mortar shop lies on a historic cobbled lane behind Hexham’s main shopping street.

In addition to our online beauty outlet and high-street shop, we run the Beautiful Betty salon. We’re proud to say that we use exclusively cruelty-free, sustainable brands for our treatments.  Our treatments menu is online.

Not all beauty outlets are created equal. Beautiful Betty gives you the ability to feel beautiful without compromise.  Buy the latest, greatest products that align with your ethical lifestyle. You’ll find plenty of info on each product, so that you can make the choices that suit you.
